ROB modeled three sexy looks for the elite group of art monkeys who joined us at the Ruby Room for our September session. The first look out of shoot was COWBOY…and what a fabulous cowboy he makes!

Art monkeys grab the raw materials for the “Draw Rob on a Balloon” contest

Rob transforms into a man from the dawn of time for our next set.

Rob strikes a pose for the “Draw Rob fighting a sabertoothed tiger” contest

Ron gets hell bent for leather for his last look.

In August, Dr. Sketchy’s San Diego was honored to be a part of TIKI OASIS, the largest gathering on Earth devoted to all things tiki!
Our models were the gorgeous Ophelia Handful and Mama Bodessa of Sultry Savage Burlesque. Ophelia Handful got the party started.

Two brave art monkeys stepped up to participate in the “Chug a mai tai then draw with your non-dominant hand” contest!

For our Comic Con 2009/2nd anniversary special session, we brought characters from Dr. Sketchy’s founder Molly Crabapple’s first graphic novel, Scarlet Takes Manhattan, to life!

The inimitable Lady Borgia was perfect as the late 1800’s New York bowery orphan turned burlesque fire-eating superstar Scarlett O’Herring.

Molly Crabapple was in town to host this special session.

Scarlett’s (pantomimed) fire-eating skills were on display.

Molly greets legendary Playboy cartoonist Doug Sneyd during a break.

Scarlett is joined on stage by her lover Daniel D’Lovely, portrayed by San Diego Drag King extraordinaire Diego Del Fuego.

Molly adjudicates the “thought balloon” contest.

Looks like Red Sonja wandered into the session. Gotta love Con weekend!

Lady Borgia as Scarlett graced us with a special performance, danced to the Two Man Gentleman Band’s single “Scarlett Takes Manhattan.”

Adieu for another year from Molly Crabapple…til next Con!

This session turned out to be a Dr. Sketchy’s reunion! That’s yours truly Miss Lily in the middle, and from left to right, Bob from Dr. Sketchy’s LA (and our fabulous sponsor, Baby Tattoo Books), Joe from Dr. Sketchy’s Pittsburgh, founder and NYC hostess Molly Crabapple, Aaron and Alexis from Dr. Sketchy’s Baltimore, and Tinky Sparkle from Dr. Sketchy’s San Francisco.

In June, San Diego art monkeys got a double dose of late 1960s sexy sci-fi cheese!
On June 4, Dr. Sketchy’s was invited by the groovy folks at MoPA to hold a mini sketch class during their POP Thursdays Barbarella-themed party. The lovely LEIA posed in MoPA’s lobby, compelling party-goers to grab a pad and capture her intergalactic bodaciousnes.

Lucky monkeys! That’s wasn’t all! Leia reprises her role at our regular session on June 20, with Barbarella playing at the bar, music from the soundtrack playing, and pictures of beautiful blind angel Pygar decorating the stage!

Entries in the “best drawing with your non-dominant hand” contest

The lovely Amelia wins again!

Presto – Barbarella is replaced with the Great Tyrant. “Pretty, pretty, pretty…”

We dragged Ruby Room co-owner Paul onstage to judge the “round robin” contests (teams of 4 art monkeys traded pads every 5 minutes).

Congrats to the winnas! Mmmm…booze.

Farewell art monkeys! We didn’t find Durand Durand, but it was awesome!

Some amazing sketches from our monkeys…Check out more in our flickr pool, and upload yours!

It’s time to roll! The San Diego Derby Starlettes (of the San Diego Roller Derby League) posed in a sporty spice session

In today’s match – Velvet Klaw!

Mosquito Bandito!

Rosy Lee Ristaker!

Red Hot Penni!

and Holly Car Brader!

The girls showed their softer side and got all pinup-y

Photographer Monkey Matt was strong armed, I mean, volunteered to be the “Human Canvas” for one of our wacky contests. One art monkey drew the lovely Holly Car Brader on his back, one on his front, and the winner was chosen by applause-o-meter

The worthy runner-up!

The winnah!!

Va va voom!

Special thanks to the San Diego Roller Derby League lovelies from the San Diego Derby Starlettes! And to the North Park Craft Mafia for donating some cool prizes!

Burlesque beauty and tarot card queen Mija Macabre brought her dark version of Alice in Wonderland to life for our over-capacity crowd of eager art monkeys.

The white rabbit is having a bad day.

Dr. Sketchy mingled with the gods in our March session, a Tribute to Indian Divinity.
Ganesh, patron of the arts and sciences, intellect and wisdom, graced us with his ponderous presence.

The winner of our first contest put Ganesh in a scene from Indiana Jones…Snakes, why’d it have to be snakes?!

Next came burlesque cutie Mynx D’Meanor as Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, prosperity and generosity.

Sabrina, as divine mother Parvati, delights our art monkeys with a belly dance.

Our gods ended the session with a group pose.

Jake sneaks a photo of the divine…

Then collects tribute for the inspired models.

SPECIAL THANKS to Sabrina, Mynx, Ganesh and JAKE WILSON, who styled the session and designed each god’s look.

MISS H was full of treats and tricks for her repeat performance as our DOMINATRIX VALENTINE

Time for cuddles…

Miss H judges the first contest, “Best depiction of Miss H in a box of Valentine’s chocolates”

The winner! She got a real leather bondage mask as a prize. Lucky girl!!

Bad teddy!

Our dominatrix goes platinum for the last set…

In the end, Miss H craves a little discipline herself…

Goodnight naughty art monkeys! See you next month!

Many art monkeys caught the Eye of the Tiger sketching STMUL8R in our January 2009 session!

Winner and new world champion of the “draw STMUL8R all beat up” contest won a cool punching nun puppet!

Very close runner up…

STMUL8R switched to runner mode for his next set.

STMUL8R got all bendy for his last set.

It looks like this “Draw STMUL8R as Baby New Year” contest may become an annual event!

The winna!!
