A note from Nikki plus no sessions in March or April. Next session: May 21.

There will be no sessions in March or April. Next session is May 21 .

A note from Nikki…

Dearest art monkeys,

I am stepping down as director of the San Diego branch as I’m going on a wild, outrageous adventure for an indefinite amount of time away from San Diego. (I’m going to be a traveling gypsy for a bit and build up my freelance creative business and work and travel). It has been a pleasure and an absolute blast to spend time with you all over the last 6 years. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I hope you had as much fun as I did! I’d love to keep in touch and if there’s anything I can help you with in the future, let me know. If you want to get in touch with me (and/or follow my adventures), you can:
-find my contact info here
-subscribe to my personal mailing list here
-follow me on Instagram here, Pinterest here and Twitter here
-and, soon, you’ll be able to find me on Facebook here

The great news is that Dr. Sketchy’s San Diego will keep going on strong and with a new (but old – you’ll see what I mean) team looking after you. You will now be in the very capable hands of: the original founder of the San Diego branch (and director from 2007-2010), Lily Jackson;  our very own San Diego branch photographer, Matthew Hohlfeld, and, my lovely assistant (and model!), Jacquie Witt. So it’s a new team running the show but they’ve all been with Dr. Sketchy’s San Diego before. You’re going to continue having good times and great Dr. Sketchy’s fun with them! Remember, there will be no sessions in March or April. The next session will be May 21. If you have any questions, you can email drsketchysandiego@gmail.com, get the latest info here on the website and join the Facebook group here to keep connected.

Like I said, it’s been a blast, dahlings, and I hope you’ll stay in touch!

Smooches
Nikki

Thank you lovelies handwritten

Atrium, oh Atrium…special considerationsTiki Oasis Atrium photo
This year at Tiki Oasis, we are once again bringing artists outside to enjoy the exotic atmosphere of the Atrium with it’s gorgeous Tiki carvings, water features and foliage! Seeing as we’ll be in this lush outdoor locale, consider bringing:
-an easel or clipboard (we will not have as many tables as usual)
-sunscreen
-a parasol or umbrella

Hotel site plan…
Click here for a site map of the hotel to help you locate the Atrium. It’s on the ground floor and in the north section of the hotel tower. Note: You do not need a Tiki Oasis wristband to get to us 😉

Drinks…
And, in case you were wondering, the answer is yes, you can still enjoy cocktails in the Atrium – you’ll just need to buy them at Islands, the hotel bar/lounge, or from the patio adjacent to the Lagoon Ballroom.

ABOUT TIKI OASIS:
Tiki Oasis is “the largest and longest running Tiki Event on planet earth.” Four scrumptious days packed with good times, fun, shopping, symposiums, music and entertainment celebrating everything Tiki. This year’s theme at Tiki Oasis is “YESTERDAY’S FUTURE, TODAY!” celebrating the Space Age. Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School San Diego is honored to be part of this incredible event. (Find out all about Tiki Oasis here.)

Please note: There is much to see at Tiki Oasis during the day (for free too!) so come early and enjoy the classic car show, Tiki vendors, the Tiki Oasis Art Show and more before the Dr. Sketchy’s session. You’d need to buy a Tiki Oasis evening pass to enjoy any of the festivities and entertainment that happen after 5pm by the pool. The evening passes sell out so get them while you can!

Drawing! Contests! Prizes!

Join us for a special Comic-Con inspired pop-up session – almost like a flash mob Dr. Sketchy’s style – and enjoy drawing and contests hosted by us. We’ll have also have prizes for the best costumes and gifts for art monkeys who bring their friends.

Important info and considerations…Costumers, artists and full time geek girls Ace and Cinsangel pose for Dr Sketchy’s San Diego Comic-Con pop-up session, Sat July 11, 2015 www.drsketchysandiego.com

  • We will NOT be inside Comic-Con so you will not need a Comic-Con badge to join us…we will be “Comic-Con adjacent”
  • Parking downtown will be heinous…consider:
    -catching the trolley in
-getting dropped off via taxi, Uber, pedicab, friend, etc
-catching the Coronado ferry from Coronado across to the Convention Center
  • Getting through downtown to us will be like a pilgrimage…plan to arrive by 4:30pm so you can get to us/find us by 5pm
  • This is a surprise pop-up session – almost like a flash mob Dr. Sketchy’s style – so we will not have tables or chairs set up…consider bringing: an easel or clipboard for drawing and a cushion, blanket or fold up chair for sitting
  • Since it is a pop-up session there will be no advance reservations and “seating” will be first come first served – get there early if you want a good spot
  • The session will be outside so consider bringing:
    -sunscreen
    -a parasol or umbrella
  • Let’s make this the bestest pop-up session in history…
invite your friends, family and co-workers to join us (it’s free after all) – we’ll have gifts for art monkeys who bring their friends!
-feel free to come in costume – we’ll have prizes for the best costumes
-help us spread the word –  follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and share, tweet and post about the session (@DrSketchySD, hashtag #DrSketchySD and #SDCC)
  • Bring your sketchpads and drawing implements…but we’ll have basic art supplies (paper and pencils) if you don’t want to lug yours around

Location, location, location…

  • The address of the Convention Center is:
111 W Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA 92101
  • We’ll be on the Convention Center stairs between the entrances to Hall C and D. Here’s a photo of our location:
Convention Center steps - empty with sign
  • Note the “No Comic Con Access” sign – if for some reason, we need to move our pop-session from these stairs, we’ll leave a note on the back of this sign with the new location info. We don’t foresee there being any issues but we have a plan B, just in case.
  • Here’s another photo of what it’ll look like with people:
Convention Center steps - during Comic Con
  • And to help you find us, you can find a video of the location and what’s around it here

P.S. Mark your calendars for our next regular session: Saturday August 15 from 3 – 6pm. And remember you don’t have to wait for one of our public sessions – you can always book your very own session. Find out more here.
